Flights generally leave Boston in the evening flying overnight and arriving in Bulgaria the next day. *Travel is on major airlines (such as: Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, etc) with one stop layovers in a major European city (London, Paris, Munich, etc.). Travel time includes around 10 hours in air.

TRAVEL TO THE CENTER IN STOLAT, BULGARIA
The Stone & Compass Center includes a 300 square meter barn where one can enjoy a relaxing time looking out at the Balkan Mountains. The Center includes 2000 acres of land.

DAY 4: VELIKO TARNOVO
In the morning, tour of Tsaravets Castle and Veliko Tarnovo as you explore this historic 'old' capital of the great Bulgarian kingdom of the 10th century.
DAY 4: SERVICE LEARNING
In the afternoon, begin your service to the village of Stolat, Bulgaria. Projects include revitalizing the village center with clean-up, painting, and light carpentry as well as working with local residents on gardening.
DAY 5: SERVICE LEARNING CONTINUED
Continue working on your service project in the village of Stolat. Reward yourself in the late afternoon with a dip in the pool.
DAY 6: HIKE EMEN GORGE
Spend a day in the wilderness hiking along a ravine down to Emen Waterfall.
After a nice hike enjoy a packed lunch and swim through the waterfall!
DAY 7: ETARA
Etara is an ethnographic complex where artists in residence create traditional crafts using water powered machinery and historic methods. Watch the craftsman work as you have the opportunity to buy reasonably priced souveniers to bring home to your friends and family.

DAY 8: ROAD TRIP OVER THE BALKAN MOUNTAINS AND SHIPKA PEAK
Stop at the top of the Balkan Mountains at Shipka Monument, where Bulgaria defeated the Ottoman Empires 500 years of occupation. Enjoy 360 degree views of Bulgaria as the trip continues onto Plovdiv in the south of Bulgaria.
DAY 8: ROAD TRIP TO PLOVIDV
Sit in a Roman theatre in the city of Plovdiv.
Enjoy the stunning sites of this historic "city of 7 hills" as you see how the old mixes with the new.
DAY 9: DEPARTURE FROM SOFIA
Stay in Sofia one more night before departing back home.
