Flights generally leave Boston in the evening flying overnight and arriving in Bulgaria the next day. *Travel is on major airlines (such as: Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, etc) with one stop layovers in a major European city (London, Paris, Munich, etc.). Travel time includes around 10 hours in air.
Day 3: Tour Sofia
Enjoy a walking tour Sofia the capital of Bulgaria.
Travel to The Center in Stolat, Bulgaria
The Stone & Compass Center includes a 300 square meter barn where one can enjoy a relaxing time looking out at the Balkan Mountains. The Center includes 2000 acres of land.

Relaxation and fun abound as guests can enjoy our gardens, pool and open areas complete with lawn games and night time stargazing.
Lodging is in two renovated historic homes and has capacity to sleep 30. There is also a full kitchen and dining facility.
Day 4: Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
Take a walking tour of Tsaravets Castle with Bulgarian high school students whom you will spend this day talking to and getting to know on this cultural exchange. These students are from the local language high school and are eager to practice their English conversational skills to improve them for future tests to study abroad. It is also a great opportunity to make new friends! Veliko Tarnovo is the historic 'old' capital of the great Bulgarian kingdom of the 10th century.
Service Learning with Alliance Lingua Language Center, LTD
Alliance Lingua is our partner organization on this service trip. High school students take English language instruction at this organization and are eager to partner with native born English speakers to enhance their oral language skills. Have fun getting to know students from another country while helping them fine tune their English skills as they prepare to take English language tests for entry into University.
DAY 5: THEATRE SERVICE LEARNING
Today will include a full day of service to restore the communist era theatre to its glory. This will include cleaning and categorizing items left behind from days long ago.
DAY 6: RELAX AT THE CENTER
Today you get to have a respite and relax at the 2200 acre S&C center property. *If the service at the theatre has enticed you and you want to go back and keep working . . . you can do this as well. The theatre is a short walk from the Center. But you can fill this day with sleeping in, taking a walk, playing lawn games, swimming in the pool, taking a horse and carriage ride. The end of the day will include a cultural dinner and dancing.
Learn traditional Bulgarian dances at the cultural dinner and dance in the barn.
Enjoy making new friends around the bonfire.
Day 7: Day hike to Emen Waterfall
Spend a day in the wilderness hiking along a ravine down to Emen Waterfall.
After a nice hike enjoy a packed lunch and swim through the waterfall!
We will stop for some amazing pictures!
Day 8: Etara
Etara is an ethnographic complex where artists in residence create traditional crafts using water powered machinery and historic methods. Watch the craftsman work as you have the opportunity to buy reasonably priced souveniers to bring home to your friends and family.
We will also go to Bacho Kiro Cave on this day.
Cooper, woodworking, weaving, silversmiths, pottery, and more.
Day 9: Road trip over Balkan Mountains & Shipka Peak
Stop at the top of the Balkan Mountains at Shipka Monument, where Bulgaria defeated the Ottoman Empires 500 years of occupation. Enjoy 360 degree views of Bulgaria as the trip continues onto Plovdiv in the south of Bulgaria.
Day 8: Road trip to Plovdiv
Sit in a Roman theatre in the city of Plovdiv.
Enjoy the stunning sites of this historic "city of 7 hills" as you see how the old mixes with the new.
Day 10: Departure from Sofia
Stay in Sofia one more night before departing back home.
