While families are encouraged to enjoy any of our tours, we’ve designed this tour specifically to delight kids of all ages.  Expand your horizons together as you skip down the Yellow Brick Road, act out your favorite comedy/tragedy on the stage of a Roman amphitheatre, and stand guard while protecting a medieval castle.  Watch artisans at work, hear traditional musicians, and learn folk dances while sample authentic Bulgarian cuisine for a cultural experience you won’t soon forget.  Unplug with an outdoors hiking excursion to a waterfall. The beauty of our rustic barn is the perfect setting to enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains. Adults can relax with early morning coffee or evening beverage while the little ones can run and play in the outdoors all day.

Youth Service Learning & Cultural Exchange

On this nine day tour you will have the opportunity to explore the great sites of Bulgaria while also completing 15 hours of service learning.  Service will consist of 2 days helping high school aged Bulgarian students better their English skills while creating cross-cultural friendships in the process. Travel to three major cities (Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, & Plovdiv) see sites spanning 5000 years of history including a Roman amphitheater & a medieval castle. In addition to all the cultural excursions ample time will be provided to relax and adventure through the natural wonders of Bulgaria by hiking to a waterfall and enjoying our 2000 acre property in the Balkan Mountains.

Talk at on Bulgaria

The Stone and Compass Educational & Cultural Retreat Center in Bulgaria is co-founded by husband and wife team, Julie Kiernan and Robert Goodwin.  On July 21st they will be giving a talk in Marblehead, MA about their experiences regarding Bulgaria.

At the event you will be able to awaken all your senses to the traditions of Bulgaria. Tasting the flavors, listening to the music, and touching traditional arts and crafts! After you experience these items first hand Julie and Rob will take you on an educational journey through their process and experience of falling in love with Bulgaria leading to the formation of The Stone and Compass. You will learn about the history of Bulgaria, what is has to offer the world, and why you should consider it to be more than just a former Soviet Bloc country.  

This talk will leave you with a plethora of new information and if you aren't careful you could also leave with a new love in your life: Bulgaria!
